On the occasion of our 20th anniversary as a label, we assembled this thrill-packed 2-CD documentary, with all the highlights of our evolution from the early days of punk to the latter days of space-age drones, and everything in between, accompanied by a deluxe 24-page booklet packed with reminiscences and histories.

Since most of these artist's LP's are out of print, it's nice to have a least one song by all these great overlooked bands. It's a shame that only big record company bands/artists are allowed to be heard on radio. If half these Bomp bands/artists had the big budgets behind them to promote them and keep them working and fed, we would have a ton of classic records flooding our record stores. To bad Greg Shaw (founder of Bomp) wasn't a very rich eccentric with and endless stream of cash to keep Bomp artist in the forefront of popular music. I'd much rather hear The Things and Miracle Workers new records every year (if they were able to afford to keep recording I'm sure there would be new releases from them ) than have to deal with new boring trends and lame bands to go with these boring trends every few years. The Things 'Everytime' still makes me wish they were still around making records. A GREAT band on a great compilation. Thanks Bomp!!

Notes From the Underground fueron una de las bandas que en un principio llamaron la atención del público del área de la Bahia de San Francisco. Formados en torno a la figura de Fred Sokolow, guitarrista y líder de la banda, lograron hacerse un hueco en el primer festival auspiciado por The Family Dog. Más tarde pasaron a ser la banda residente de The New Orleans House en Berkeley donde atrajeron un gran número de seguidores y consiguieron un contrato de grabación con Vanguard. En Nueva York grabaron su primer y único LP ya que debido a diversos cambios de formación, Vanguard decidió retirarles el apoyo publicitario ante el peligro de desintegración de la banda. Ante esta situación la banda se trasladó a Nuevo México para poco después desaparecer. Fred Sokolow dedicaría su carrera al bluegrass y al jazz grabando hasta hace poco.

Musicalmente la palabra que mejor les definiría es eclecticismo. Muy diversas influencias pueden apreciarse en su música: country, ragtime, folk, rhythm & blues, garage,etc. Pero siempre interpretadas con una elegancia exquisita. Para haceros una idea aproximada yo les encuentro puntos en común con Country Joe & the Fish, The Charlatans…
